Capital Campaign Services

 Capital Campaign for Smaller Churches

The United Methodist Foundation of New England offers its Capital Campaign Services program with Dr. Bradley Call as our capital campaign staff consultant.  Dr. Call is an ordained U.M. pastor with a graduate degree in stewardship.  He brings many years of capital campaign experience to this position.  The initial theme, "Sharing the Grace...", emphasizes the essential spiritual dimension of stewardship in it's approach of raising funds for capital and ministry needs by focusing not just on "fund-raising" but "faith-raising" as well.

Our capital campaign program is also an integrated program that offers the option of a planned-giving component with assistance through the Foundation's loan program.  Studies show that including planned giving in your capital campaign will increase the overall goal with the added benefit of building your church’s endowment. More importantly, it offers a new way to give, making it possible for those persons on a fixed income to participate, and helping others to be more strategic in their giving.

Here is what churches are saying:

"When the figure after our service on Sunday was announced there was a gasp of surprise. People did not believe or think that we would have this amount in commitments already. One man from our team is still shaking his head in disbelief and said I guess it was a good idea that we hired Brad. He didn’t believe we would do well. So, even though we are just beginning our follow-up, people are feeling very positive. This whole process has been wonderful on so many different levels I cannot begin to tell you...  We have a follow-up team meeting next week and we know our work is not done but there is an energy and spirit here that is wonderful."

- Linda Leach, Campaign Leadership Group Chair, Poultney UMC, Poultney VT

"Thanks again for all the help with the campaign.  You have proved the value of an outside consultant in spades.  My wife was telling me yesterday as we were shopping that she was skeptical of needing a consultant (in spite of the way it helps Consecration Sunday campaigns), but she is now sold on the value of having one. ...[The] focus on spiritual growth will be a great help to our people... Moving money considerations into a faith context will help us take another step into a deeper, more passionate spirituality. Thank you for leading us in this well-crafted program. I believe that God has great things in mind for Bath UMC, and you have been an important part of moving us ahead in our ministry."

– Neil E. Gastonguay, Pastor, Bath United Methodist Church

"I certainly enjoyed our association and welcomed your leadership... You are truly a blessing to the churches you serve. Again many thanks for your support and commitment to our cause and others."

Ken Young, Campaign Leadership Group Chairperson, Bath UMC

How do you begin this process?
The advantage of including the Foundation early in the planning process is the professional guidance which a consultant can provide. Churches that invest in hiring a capital campaign consultant find they usually meet or exceed their goal. Keeping campaign tasks on schedule as well as avoiding the common pitfalls associated with raising money is of substantial value to the church.

How else can the Foundation assist in this endeavor?

Our mission is to provide "… services that help strengthen (local churches and agencies) and promote faithful financial stewardship." In some cases, when the building project requires a loan or mortgage, the Foundation offers a low cost, low interest loan program (currently 6.5% for construction loans) to assist your church. As your partner in ministry, we will do our best to help your church to successfully achieve its God-given potential.

For those churches that have completed the initial "Sharing the Grace" campaign, a follow-up campaign, "Growing in Faith", is now being offered. Please email info@umfne.org or call Gary Melville at 1-800-595-4347 for more information on conducting a capital campaign in your church.
