  1. Programs that address direct human service needs are the major focus of grants given by the Foundation as opposed to building or capital improvement programs. Priority is given to those requests that address and support the vision, mission, core values and critical issues of the New England Annual conference.

  2. Unless otherwise specified by an endowment agreement, grants are primarily given to programs within the United Methodist community.

  3. Grants for new program start-up costs are given preference over underwriting existing operating budgets.

  4. The proposed project needs to have identified a real need, and the grant is an effective means of meeting that need.

  5. Where possible, grants would have the likelihood of making a positive difference for the The United Methodist Church and her people.

  6. It is hoped that the grant would stimulate other giving to that cause or to other United Methodist causes.

  7. Grant projects need to have the ability to survive beyond the support of the United Methodist Foundation of New England. Matching-fund grants are sometimes given to encourage growth in donor base.

  8. Grants are not made to fund endowments nor made to individuals.
