The United Methodist Foundation
of New England exists for the purpose of assisting United Methodist
ministries in New England; therefore, grants are predominantly made to
United Methodist churches, agencies and causes in New England, unless
otherwise directed by the governing document of those funds given by donor
for restricted use. All potential recipients must qualify for tax exempt
status under 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Is there a real need for the
project, and is the project an effective means of meeting these needs?
-
Is the project centered on
human service needs?
-
How significant is the
United Methodist Foundation of New England's participation in the
project, and can the project survive beyond the United Methodist
Foundation of New England's support?
-
Will other giving be
stimulated if this grant is made?
-
Grant applications must
receive the support and recommendation of the District Superintendent
in whose district the project is located.
-
Grant applications are
considered at the Fall Board of Director's Grants &
Financial Assistance Committee meeting. Deadline for submission of
grant request is September 15th of each calendar year.

The grant application must
be a formal proposal, in writing, using the grant proposal cover sheet
provided by the United Methodist Foundation of New England.

The proposal must make a
specific financial request stating the amount and how the funds would
be used.

The proposal must be
accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the District
Superintendent in whose district the project is based.

The proposal should provide
information about the following items:
-
Brief history
and background. How long in existence?
-
The purpose(s)
for which you exist and your objectives.
-
Any recent
evaluations that address how agency or program is faring compared with
stated goals and objectives.

Copy of
organizational chart.
-
Credentials
and experience of organizational management.
-
Most recent
independently audited financial statements.
-
Current
operating budget.
-
Statement of
expenditures showing how you spend your funds. Specifically break down
salaries paid to your director and various staff members (names not
necessary). If you feel there are other major items of expenditures
which need further clarifications or breakdowns, please do so.

Furnish a
list of the names of the members of your Board of Directors or
sponsors, and indicate those members who contribute their time and
services in assisting you to carry out your purposes and objectives.
Specifically, what services do they render?

Furnish a
copy of the letter from the Internal Revenue Service as evidence of
your tax exempt status under Section 501 (3) (c).

Copy of
resolution by your Board authorizing this application.

What is the
purpose of the project?
-
How this need
is currently being handled and how the grant will address the need?
-
Evidence of
acceptance of the proposed approach by others.
-
Number of
people served by the project.
-
Credentials
and experience of people running the project.

-
Dollar amount
being requested and a line-item budget for the total requirement of
the project.
-
Anticipated
time of funding for project.
-
List of
permanent and other sources of funding for the project.
-
List of grant
applications made to other funding sources.
-
Applicants are urged to
submit any other information which may aid the Grants & Financial
Assistance committee in understanding the program being proposed.

An
unbound, unstapled, single-sided copy of the written
proposal should be sent to:
