THE IMPORTANCE OF THANKING AS MINISTRY

Thanking someone for their generosity is vital ministry!
Do you remember your mom saying, “Have you written your thank you notes yet?” Well, guess what? She (as usual) had her priorities right. And guess what else? The church could also use a little reminding about the importance of showing gratitude.
From the pastor to the one who sits quietly in the pew each week, this webinar provided lots of ideas and excitement about surprising the members of your congregation, and the communities around you, with your thanks.
In this fast-paced webinar, we covered:
- Why thanking is important
- How to write a great thank you letter
- Other ways to thank members of your congregation
Featuring Cesie Delve Scheuermann:
Cesie has loved learning about ways to thank people who give. She’s been writing the stewardship blog “Inspiring Generosity” for more than ten years. She is the Stewardship Consultant for the OR-ID Annual Conference (where she also served as the Conference Lay Leader). In addition, she is a Senior Ministry Strategist for Horizons Stewardship.

Almost 15% of a church’s budget can come in the final month of the year. How? By inviting people to invest in your ministry vision. Are you ready to do that this year?
From the other perspective, many people want to make a difference with an end of the year donation but don’t know how or which way might have the biggest impact.

SEPTEMBER FFES
SHARING GOD'S VISION THRU YOUR ANNUAL FINANCE CAMPAIGN
Henri Nouwen - Spirituality of Fundraising
“From the perspective of the gospel, fundraising is not a response to a crisis. Fundraising is, first and foremost, a form of ministry. It is a way of announcing our vision and inviting other people into our mission….vision gives us courage to speak when we might want to remain silent…we offer other people an opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission…we are declaring we have a vision that is amazing and exciting. We are inviting [people] to invest [themselves] through the resources that God has given [them] – energy, prayers, money – in this work to which God has called us."
What was covered:
- WHY are you doing the campaign – theological grounding
- WHAT is the context in which it will be happening – what do you know about your church and community?
- HOW will it work – all the technical stuff including letters, sermons, publicity, etc.
- WHO will be involved – who will be part of this celebration and which of their gifts are they being asked to share?
- WHEN will it be? It does matter! Fall is traditional, what is contextual?
