GENEROSITY AS A SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE

A Transforming Journey with Your Faith Community

As Jesus and the disciples gathered in the upper room, Jesus said to them “Love one another.  In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.”  John 13: 34, 35

Lent is a great time to focus on the spiritual discipline of generosity from God, for ourselves and to others. It is how we “love one another.” During this Foundation Forum, we discuss ideas for a Lenten sermon series, a group Bible study, and tools for personal reflection.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THANKING AS MINISTRY

Thanking someone for their generosity is vital ministry!

Do you remember your mom saying, “Have you written your thank you notes yet?” Well, guess what? She (as usual) had her priorities right. And guess what else? The church could also use a little reminding about the importance of showing gratitude.

In this fast-paced webinar, we covered: why thanking is important, how to write a great thank you letter, and other ways to thank members of your congregation.

Featuring Cesie Delve Scheuermann: Cesie has loved learning about ways to thank people who give. She’s been writing the stewardship blog “Inspiring Generosity” for more than ten years. She is the Stewardship Consultant for the OR-ID Annual Conference (where she also served as the Conference Lay Leader). In addition, she is a Senior Ministry Strategist for Horizons Stewardship.

Almost 15% of a church’s budget can come in the final month of the year. How? By inviting people to invest in your ministry vision. Are you ready to do that this year?

From the other perspective, many people want to make a difference with an end of the year donation but don’t know how or which way might have the biggest impact.
